README.301 for Harvard Graphics 3.0 Drivers
09/18/91
(c) Software Publishing Corporation, 1991 All Rights Reserved.
Harvard Graphics 3.01 includes several new printer and film
recorder drivers, and some changes to current drivers. To use
any of the new device drivers, follow the instructions in
"Adding new device drivers" in Chapter 3 of the Harvard Graphics
3.0 Setup Manual.
Other files may also be included on this diskette, such as
HGCOPY.EXE. These contain updated versions of Harvard Graphics
program files or utilities. To use any of these other files, copy
the new file to the appropriate directory on your hard disk or
network drive using the DOS COPY command.
NEW DRIVERS
This version of Harvard Graphics offers driver support for four
additional film recorders and four printers:

CHANGES TO CURRENT DRIVERS
This version of Harvard Graphics also includes minor changes to
several printer drivers and one film recorder driver. These
driver files have been reorganized to offer additional font
support, according to the following table:
Device type Original driver Device name(s) 3.01 driver
filename filename

________________________________________________________________
Before you install the new Agfa Matrix Chromascript driver
(PS74.FM3), you must first delete the old driver (PS13.FM3).
This is the only driver file you need to delete to use the new
drivers provided in Harvard Graphics 3.01.
USING THE NEW SCODL DRIVERS
The SCODL film recorder drivers included in this version of
Harvard Graphics support either the default font set, or the
extended Bitstream Typefaces available from Agfa Matrix. See the
following sections for details about your film recorder and its
fonts. For information about creating and processing SCODL files
and using SCODL fonts, see Appendix C of the Harvard Graphics 3.0
User's Manual.
AGFA MATRIX SCODL FILM RECORDERS
Select Agfa Matrix SCODL (default fonts) at Film Recorder Setup
if you have only these four bundled fonts that come with the MVP
software:
Font name Font number
________________________________________________________________
CG Times Medium 1
CG Times Bold 2
CG Times Triumvirate Medium 3
CG Times Triumvirate Bold 4
________________________________________________________________
Select Agfa Matrix SCODL at Film Recorder Setup if you need support
for the entire SCODL extended Bitstream font set.
IMAPRO SCODL FILM RECORDER: DEFAULT FONTS
Select Imapro SCODL (default fonts) at Film Recorder Setup if
you have only these eight bundled fonts that come with the
Imapro MVP Star system:

If you've purchased the extended Bitstream fonts for the Imapro
film recorder, see the next section.
IMAPRO SCODL FILM RECORDER: EXTENDED FONTS
If you've purchased the additional Bitstream font set for the
Imapro film recorder, select Imapro SCODL at Film Recorder
Setup.
To use the extended font set with the Imapro film recorder,
follow the steps in "Creating and processing SCODL files" in
Appendix C of the Harvard Graphics 3.0 User's Manual. However,
make sure that you download the extended Agfa Matrix fonts
first, before you download the default Imapro fonts (font
numbers 1,2,3,4,5,7,17, and 19).
The Agfa Matrix extended font set contains Agfa Matrix versions
of these fonts, which are different from the Imapro default
fonts. To output with the correct Imapro fonts, make sure the
default Imapro fonts are the last fonts downloaded. If you load
one font at a time, download the Imapro versions of fonts
1,2,3,4,5,7,17, and 19. (The Agfa Matrix and Imapro versions
are the same for all other fonts in the extended font set.)
SCODL hardware fonts in existing charts
The SCODL extended fonts drivers use updated spacing and can print
more extended characters than the previous driver. This means that
if you've already created charts in Harvard Graphics 3.0 that use
SCODL hardware fonts 1-4 (the default fonts), then you need to
update each chart's text and re-save it in order to take advantage
of the new driver's features for output. If you output existing
charts with the new driver without updating the text and re-saving
the charts, spacing in the SCODL hardware fonts may be
unpredictable.
This applies only to charts using SCODL hardware fonts. If
you've used only software fonts in existing charts, you don't
need to update them to use the Imapro SCODL driver.
To update chart data in existing charts:
________________________________________________________________
1. Start Harvard Graphics 3.0.
2. Get the chart you need to update.
3. At the Main Menu, select Edit chart.
4. Type over any character in the chart.
For example, if the chart title is "Sales," then type "S"
over the "s" in Sales.
5. Press F2.
6. Press Ctrl-S to re-save the chart.
________________________________________________________________
Repeat the steps for every chart you want to update. If you've
created text in Draw, you must also update the Draw text.
To update text in Draw in existing charts:
________________________________________________________________
1. Start Harvard Graphics 3.0.
2. At the Main Menu, select Draw.
3. Select the text you want to update.
If you've created several text strings, you can select
them all at once.
4. Change any option on the text.
For example, change the text size from 4 to 5. If
you've selected several text strings, make sure you
change an option that can apply to all the text strings.
5. Press Ctrl-S to re-save the chart.
________________________________________________________________
Repeat the steps for every chart you want to update.
